Our Learning January 20th-24th

   Room 17/18 Blog Important Dates: Jan 27th- Report Cards go live on Powerschool Feb 13th, 14th- Teacher’s convention - No School Feb 17th- Family Day- No school Feb 26th- BeBrave Hockey Game Math  In math this week we started learning about prime and composite numbers. We learned that prime numbers can only be made by multiplying 1x itself. Composite numbers can be made by multiplying other numbers together. Then we learned LCM (lowest common multiple) and GCF (greatest common factor).               šŸ“šE.L.A.LšŸ“ For E.L A.L, we did more persuasive writing using the OREO format.  We started to do our persuasive writing about what the best food is. We planned out our writing by using a chart. We had to do research about our favourite foods to put in the 4-sectioned chart.    Room 17/18 Blog Important Dates: Jan 27th- Report Cards go live on Powerschool Math:  Ms.Olson's Group- This week we finish learning about area, perimeter and volume. We revised how to find the area and perimeter of a rectangle or square. We also learned how to find the area of a triangle.  Mr. Strother's Group- We also finished learning about area and perimeter and finished with a test on Thursday.  Ms. Tucker's Group- We also finished learning about area and perimeter. We know that perimeter is the measure of the outside length and that area is how much space is inside a shape.  ELA: This week we continued to learn about persuasive writing. We wrote a persuasive argument on what we thought was the best food/dessert. Before we could write we had to do research so that we had facts to support our opinion.  Room 17/18 Blog Important Dates: Jan 27th- Report Cards go live on Powerschool Math:  This week in Miss Olson's math group, we revised how to find the area of a triangle the formula is Base Times Height dived by two or bxh/2. We also learned how to find the area of a composite shape. That is when there are multiple shapes combined.  In Mr. Strother’s math class we were learning about area and perimeter of a rectangle. We got to measure the area and perimeter of different items around the room. For example, the window. ELA: In ELA this week we learned about persuasive writing . The topic was whether tiktok should be banned  or not in Canada. We learned about the oreo witch stands  Opinion Reason Example/Explanation Opinion We can use this oreo strategy to write a strong persuasive paragraph.
